Welcome — the two moves that make Starborn different
Jul 6
New here? Read this first. It's the whole method in ninety seconds. Most parenting advice hands you a fix before anyone has looked at what's actually happening. Starborn does the opposite. We run on two moves, in order. Move one — DESCRIBE. Before you try anything, you watch. Not "he's defiant," not "she's manipulative" — those are stories, and a camera can't film a story. You describe what a camera would see: what happened right before, what your kid did, what happened right after. You count it for a few days. That's it. Most of the time the pattern tells you what to do before you've tried a single technique. Move two — DECIDE. Once you can see the pattern, you pick ONE change to test. One. Not a new bedtime routine AND a sticker chart AND a reward jar. One change, one week, so that when something shifts you actually know what caused it. That's the loop: Describe what's happening → Decide one thing to try → check whether it worked → adjust. It's slower than a hack and about a hundred times more likely to stick. The rooms map to the moves. "What's Going On?" is where you Describe. "What Should I Try?" is where you Decide. "Did It Work?" is where you bring your data back. Start there. Bring the mess — that's what this place is for.
