Describe demo: my 2yo fights every single nap

In one line

My 2-year-old fights every nap and I'm losing an hour a day to it.

Pinpoint

When I lay him in the crib for nap, he stands up, cries, and reaches over the rail for me — for about 15 minutes before he settles.

Setting

Weekdays, around 1pm, in his room with the blackout blind down. It follows lunch and usually a bit of running around the living room right before.

Trigger

It kicks off the moment his back touches the mattress and I turn to leave. It's worse on days there was no morning outing — those days he isn't very physically tired.

Aftermath

I go back in once or twice, lay him down again, say 'nap time, I'm here.' Eventually he flops down and sleeps ~90 min. On outing days the fight is closer to 3-4 minutes.
